Connecting ASIAIR to Celestron CGEM with GPS

Can I connect ASIAIR to to CGEM mount that has a Celestron GPS unit attached? I currently plug the remote directly to the GPS unit. The ASIAIR instructions indicate that I must connect the remote directly to the ASIAIR. I am not clear on if the ASIAIR has a GPS function built into it. Or, does the ASIAIR plate solving function serve as the GPS?

mount->Nexstar hand controller USB mini B port-> ASIAIR USB port.Choose serial port, baud rate 9600.

The plate solve was not depend on the GPS and there is no gps moudle in the air
