EAF interface different between two installs

I have two laptops that I use with my ASI gear. I use SharpCap for my imaging sessions. SCap on one PC lists EAF in the focuser section and I can control focus. I decided to switch to a smaller laptop and ran into a completely different environment. SCap couldn't find EAF. I went to ZWO support and found one section saying there is no need for a driver but immediately below was how to do an update. That update required ASCOM. It looks like I need to use ASCOM on the second laptop. SCap doesn't list EAF but does show my iOptron ASCOM app. If I start IOptron Commander (ASCM) it goes looking for a mount. How can I avoid ASCOM? I want to test the laptop to focuser connectivity inside my warm house rather than cold garage!

You can try ASICAP, you can connect EAF via native driver.

Thanks Katherine. I have ASICAP but never tried it. I prefer the native driver but it must be part of something else. I don't have ASICAP on my small laptop and maybe that is the difference.

ASICAP solved my problem. I had downloaded it on my bigger laptop and that is why it was OK but my small laptop wasn't.
