I had earlier mentioned that I could mount a 256 GB USB Flash Drive on v1.4 ASIAIR (non-pro) -- however, I reported that I could not use a USB bus powered 1TB Samsung Solid State Drive (SSD).
I finally figure out why. The Samsung SSD originally came formatted using ExFAT. Once I reformatted the drive as FAT32, ASIAIR can now see the drive as having 931 GB of free storage.
I can save images to the SSD, and ASIAIR's Image Management can see the file. I can also mount the drive on a Macintosh USB2.0 port, and can see the files inside an ASIAIR folder in the volume (just like with the USB Flash Drive). The files have read/write capability, so you can erase them, and copy other FIT files to the drive -- this can be useful for copying master dark and flats to the drive for the ASIAIR to use for live stacking.
Just as interestingly, when I reformat the Flash Drive using ExFAT format, it too stopped working, until I reformatted back to FAT32.
*** So, the bottom line is that both USB Flash Dives and USB Solid State drives will work on ASIAIR 1.4 if and only if they are formatted with FAT32. ***
The Samsung 1 TB T-5 SSD that I used has a peak current of about 0.5A at 5.1 volts, so it is well within the capability of the Raspberry-Pi-3B USB 2.0 ports.
Clear skies,
