ASI 183MC Dark Stripe

Hi Chad,

I have a user with an ASI 183MC camera and the following problem:

When running in 16bit mode there is a darker 'stripe' though the image. It's not completely black but much darker than the rest of the image (see attached images). This does NOT happen for short exposures but when the exposure time goes to 1.5s or thereabouts it starts appearing and stays until the exposure time goes shorter again. This does not happen when running in 8bit mode.

Any ideas why this would happen?

Hi Mike,

Can you offer us the detail of settings, for exposure time and gain, USB bandwidth and so on.

We will try to repeat if it could be repeat it on our side.

Thanks Chad. Details are:

Bit Depth: 16 bit

Exposure Time: Any long exposures i.e anything much over 1s. The first corrupted frame we found at exposure time 1.433s. Last good one was 1.067s.

Gain: 200

USB Limit: 60

Hi Mike,

Is it connnected to the USB3.0? And can you try to adjust the USB bandwidth?

I tested a 183 on my side, it works well. Beside, if you dis- and re- connect the camera, does it still happen?

Thanks Chad. I will ask the user to carry out more testing as suggested.

I do have one other question. With the SDK I usually get some corrupted frames throughout the night. However I have noticed that using the new ASIStudio app this does not seem to happen. Is there a difference in how the data is transferred in ASIStudio?

I think there is no different.

It should belongs to other problem, not the SDK or data transfer.
