Goto problems with HEQ6

My system of working is to get my scope pointing at the right section of sky, plate solve, sync to mount and then GoTo my target. Then repeat until I am dead on.

This has worked perfectly until the latest upgrade.

I now plate solve, sync and Goto and then repeat but the Goto doesn't get close. It can go in the opposite direction and last night it went wild and smashed the scope into the tripod despite that it should have only moved about 1 minute.

In addition to a firmware change, Daylight Saving Time has also recently changed, so you might want to look into that (or the UTC offset) too.

If you are using ASIAIR in conjunction with SkySafari, you can see if SkySafari shows that you are pointed near the Zenith (i.e., the Meridian line in SkySafari) when the OTA is pointed vertically up. A digital Level app in your iPad can help check the angle of the OTA. A DST error would show up as about one hour off from the correct Hour Angle of the Meridian.

It is just as easy to check without SkySafari -- just look up the Local Sidereal Time for your location and UTC offset on Google, and compare with the Right Ascension of the mount in ASIAIR Mount Setup window with the OTA pointed to the Meridian.

You can make this check in the daytime (with the scope indoors) and not waste dark hours.

Thanks for the reply Chen but that is not the problem.

I go from the start position and goto my target. Because I can't get an exact PA, that takes me close and plate solve tells me how far off I am. Sync the plate solve to the mount and repeat the goto and things go wild since the new update. It always used to work.

As I said, I am looking for less than a degree movement but I get hours of shift.

Daylight saving does not come into operation yet.

Please check:

- Power on the mount in the park position

- The location info is correct under the Telescope Settings

Everything is right.

I repeat I have been using this method for a year without a problem. The only thing that has changed is the latest update.

The only thing that is not working is a second Goto.

The first Goto from the park position is accurate to small margins. Second Gotos move the scope but in the wrong direction and too far.

The problem is worse in the Dec axis.

Dear zwo-team,

I have been using AsiAir since it appeared on the market and have also download the new update. I control AsiAir with an iPad and EQMod with an AZ-EQ6 mount and ASI294, ASI120MM mini. The new software has many improvements that I like! Thanks for that!

So far, everything worked perfectly before the update. But unfortunately, something doesn't work as usual and I have similar problems after update as described above.

I also found that after 3 to 4 GoTo's and plate solves, the mount does no longer moves back to the right home position but to some other position (RA sometimes Home, DEC always somewhere). Sometimes I have to stop running home in order to do not damaging the scope at the mount.

The same thing happens when I press the "Sync to Mount" button in the mount menu after switch on the mount (this is normally not necessary).

I always switch on the mount by facing home position.

I hope the bug can be found.

Okay guys, we will test this issue again. BUT most users using EQMOD without problems. Check the cables again, and try it on the PC with KStar if you can.

There is no problem with mount or cables. It works perfectly other than second or third Gotos.

It works in Sky Safari but not using the Aisair.

Something changed in the new software release.

Please do test as I see that someone else has the same problem.

I had my new ASIAIR Pro working just fine on my two NEQ6 mounts until about three days ago. Now, I can target and move with the ASIAIR app but cannot get SkySafari Pro 6 to connect to the mount. Also, whatever has happened has made it impossible to use my SynScan hand-controller, even without the ASIAIR!

Currently using Galaxy Tab A, ASIAIR app (just refreshed), SkySafari Pro 6 (just refreshed), NEQ6 Pro mount, Lynx USB/Serial cable.

I need to be able to use planetarium software because the range of objects in the ASIAIR app is too limited.

Please fix as soon as you can. We have had months of rain, rain, rain and cloud. Now we have clearer skies but my telescopes don't work!

FYI - I think the issue with the scope not returning to the correct "home" position has something to do with the EQmod/Skysafari connection.

I imaged several hours last night. Initially all my Go-to's worked perfectly, and my scope returned to the "home" position with no problems after every target. However, when I later connected to Skysafari my first "Go to" with Skysafari connected and seemed to worked fine, but after that the scope would no longer return to the correct "home" position. Furthermore, when I attempted another "go-to" from that position ASIair had difficulty centering the target.

I then turned my mount off in my ASIair app, selected only "EQmod" from the mount list without Skysafari, turned the mount back on in the application and my scope returned back to the correct "home" position and performed later "Go-to"s with no further problems.

Anyway, I hope this helps.

Waiting to hear this is fixed. I have AZEQ6GT mount with EQMOD cable. I will not be buying an ASIAIR pro unless I know there are no goto issues. It’s been a few weeks since initial post. That’s a lot of water imaging time. Would have expected a far speedier resolution.

Have you guys tried your "go-to's" without going through the SkySafari connection?

I've been out 3 nights in the last week and by simply getting the info of the target from SkySafari and manually entering it into the ASIair "go-to" I haven't experienced any problems what-so-ever.

The ONLY time I've seen any issues at all is when attempting a "go-to" from SkySafari and then switching back to ASIair. Leave SkySafari out of the "go-to" process and everything works perfectly.

Hey guys, please try ronht's way, use ASIAIR without SkySafari or just pick the RA/DEC from SkySafari. It's seems something different between ASIAIR and SkySafari.

You must have noticed all the postings about goto not working, Scopes not returning to the home position. Cameras not triggering, or stopping. All following the latest 1.4.3 issue.

I hope that when 1.4.4 is released you will have fixed all these bugs.

I have stopped using AsiAir and am just using SkySafari and an intervalometer as I used to.

So please stop making excuses and fix the software otherwise you will lose your customers.

We just brought a new EQDir cable to test this issue on the HEQ5 Pro, hope to fix it.

Has this issue been addressed? I've been having similar problems on my EQ6r. I will manually point the scope close to my target, within a few minutes. I plate solve, then attempt to GOTO the target, and the mount slews rapidly to point towards the ground. This bug happens intermittently--maybe 2 out of 3 nights. Similar to the OP, I was using the exact same steps as had always worked for me (correct GPS location, time, timezone, etc.) but following a firmware update it would then randomly fail to GOTO. I have not been using SkySafari or anything else to control the mount, nor do I use the hand controller. I have the mount plugged in directly to the ASIAIR via usb to the port on the mount that the hand controller would normally be plugged into. (It is auto-detected in the app as an eqmod mount). Again, normally this used to work just fine, but now there are frequent and frustrating failures with the GOTO function.
