Firmware updater for other operating systems

I'm currently fighting with my EAF that won't react on 'reverse motion'. The issue is (likely) the firmware, my unit is still at 3.1.3.

However, FW update is only supported in Windows. While I have some 30+ computers around here, we don't have any windows machines (nor licenses, FWIW).

Normal serial/USB units like mounts, hand controllers are usually updatable by running the software in wine, but this fails for HID devices like the EAF. There really should be an option for FW updates for users that don't have Windows.

My appreciation for the EAF (which is a very nice unit) has substantially dropped due to this :(

I'd like to second this request. I, too, do not have any Windows computers at my disposal nor do I wish for any. I use Mac and Linux and I very much appreciate the support for using your products on the operating systems that I use.

Please do consider making FW update software available for Linux and Mac as well. Many thanks in advance.

I know. This is why I opened the feature request.

What is technically restricting the FW update to Windows, when the unit has working support for Mac&Linux?

(for Linux, support via fwupd would really be cool...)

You could try install windows virtual machine on Mac&Linux.

Thanks for your suggestion. the problem with that is that is requires a Windows license which are not for free.

And thanks very much for passing on our request to the developers! I sincerely hope they will work on this.

As Wouter mentions, it's also a question of having a License for it. Thanks for notifying the devs - maybe they could also consider some bootable USB-stick image as updater? Though native versions definitely would be nicer.

As I meanwhile also ran into a second problem (the below zero error) I've now switched back to my Pegasus DMFC until I can somehow solve this FW update issue :(

Ah sorry for the late reply.

I was referring to the problems of the temperature sensor when T drops below zero. The EAF then produces a lot of error messages, which can affect reliability of the communication. It has been fixed in one of the FW updates already, so no further help needed there.
