ASI120 mini + 30mmF4 scope backfocus

Hello.....

just purchased directly from ZWO this combo along with the Air Pro.

Q1: Is the ASI120 designed to fit up to the shoulder of the 30mm scope and at that point be in-focus? Or must it be tuned?

Q2: Uncertain if I am “in-focus” with the ASI120 mini I tried many adjustments to the back focus, gain, image speed, dithering for about 90min but at no time did I every see any stars. Just Grey. Sometimes lighter grey when the gain was high or image duration long and darker grey with the opposite settings. The Air PRo gui would flick between lost star and a square green box at random places on the grey background.

Maybe I am not supposed to see stars when using Air PRo Guider setup. I reset the whole machine multiple times but always ended up with a grey image coming from the Guider. The manual does not speak about this. Wondering if I have a ASI120 that exhibits “issues“. Hope not as i suspect it is my lack of understanding.

Q3: IS it possible to do a Plate alignment and Polar alignment with only a ASI120mini and ASI Air Pro?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Hi Mayne,

1.Yes, the ASI120MM Mini was designed to fit up the 30mm scope.

2.You can try use the 1.25" extender which comes with the camera attach to 30mm scope and camera. And rotate the tube in front of the scope to focus.

3.Yes, it is possible.
