Likfe most people on this forum, I think that the ASiAir Pro is an amazing device. I have been using for 3months now and it made life so much easier.
However, there are three recurring problems that I don't know how to solve and would be grateful of any advice.
1) Goto. After successfully running PA I move the telescope manually to a part of sky close to my target, take a Preview, plate solve and sync to mount. All OK. When I then goto the target, about 50% of the time the telescope goes to the target, and 50% of the time is goes to the correct RA, but the wrong Dec. Wrong by the 2 x difference between the plate solve position and the target, as if if was on the other side of the meridian.
Further platesolves and gotos at the new location just compound the problem.
In addition the readouts as it is driving sometimes look pretty weird ie decs < -90, RAs <0 or > 24. Is has even driven the telescope below the horizon.
Normally I fix this by taking it to the other side (in dec) of the intended target and platesolve/goto again - but this isn't 100% reliable either. Any one else have this problem. Or can spot what I am doing wrong.
2) Images not displaying. Occasionally I get a timeout with an imaging displaying during Autorun - after which subsequent images are not displayed at all. I also get a problem when I pause an autorun, with the displayed images getting out of sync ie the previous one is displayed to the one that has just readout. I know the images are there - I can see then on the disk - but is there a way to "flush" the image buffer to get images displaying again? Other that rebooting the device? Note that I am using a Canon 6D MkII - which ZWO's manual acknowledges hasn't been fully checked for compatibility with the ASIAir Pro.
3) Focus. This is a bit "hit or miss" with my set-up. And this might just be an issue with my Canon. But the focus routine frequently freezes and the values being read out oscillate wildly which make finding focus impossible. I have tried all exposure values from 0.05 to 3 secs with various brightnesses of stars and with both zoom x1 and x5, with pretty much the same results. Does anyone else have this issue? Is there a magic combo of star brightness/exposure time/zoom that works?
For this reason, I would add my voice to a request for a way to measure FWHM from Previews or Autorun images, (or have it measured automatically from a use-defined star) to help achieve and maintain best focus during the night - particularly since there is no autofocus routine yet with the ASIAir Pro. If both these issues were addressed - the ZWO EAF would be my next purchase.
