Is it ok to leave the anti dew “On” in the Ascom driver whilst imaging under various conditions or should the anti dew only be switched on in humid conditions ?

Just started using the ASI2600MC and had some very nice images of Orion. But yesterday night I accidentially switch off the anti-dew - and I ended up losing my image - my guess is that the image filter window iced over. It gradually lost signal intensity, and the image background looked 'corny' ie had some texture.
Do you why ?
