IR filter required with monochrome camera

Hello, i'm very interested in acquiring a monochrome camera like ASI1600MM pro

I have a newbie question : if I want to shoot monochrome (B&W) pictures, do I need to use an IR filter mandatorily? In other word, is it possible to operate the camera without filter ?

My intended gear is to use Nikon tele lenses with an EFW adapter, EFW and 1600MM. So i wonder if I have to procure an IR filter that fits into the EFW (or somewhere else) or not.

Hi J-Ph,

You do not need to use an IR filter. Yes, it is possible to operate the camera without filter. But the pictures taken by ASI1600MM Pro will be monochrome. You can use LRGB filters, and then get the color picture in the post processing software.

I would recommend to use an IR cut filter if you use the ASI1600MM without any filter at all and a lens. Lenses in general only correct for colors and not for IR resulting in potentially huge halos around bright stars.
