The Goto search window has tripped me up a number of times too (iOS). But it has been like this for many versions now, not just on v1.5.
Notice that you must first select one of the items ("M", "NGC", "IC"."SH2"."C", "DS", "Named Star", "Comet") under the search field before you type anything into the search field.
If you select "M," the field will only take numbers. If you choose "Named Stars," the search field will only take alphabets.
Moreover, when you choose "M," ASIAIR does not switch the iOS keyboard over to the numeric keyboard, even when it only accepts numbers. You need to do it manually. Go figure.
Lots of clicking just to go to an object :-).
That being said, you do have a full keyboard (both numerics and alphabets key simultaneously available) on a 12.9" iPad pro. But I'll bet most ASIAIR users have the smaller iPads.
FWIW, I much prefer something like SkySafari's search, where you simply type in "M13" to find M13, instead of selecting "M" and then typing "13" in the ASIAIR. In fact, SkySafari even does the right thing when you type "Messier 13".
