I feel your pain. I had to attach a 34' Ethernet cable to the ASI Air and run it to a WiFi repeater in my garage that is connected to my home WiFi network. I can now have my tablet connected to the Home network and control the ASI Air inside the house (where's its warm). Otherwise I can never be more than 20' from the ASI Air. It works but it's not really "wireless"...I realize these are "first world" problems, but to be honest for $279 it's still a pretty good price point for what it does (camera control, mount control, plate solving, PA, auto guiding). Hard to press them too much, but it would seem the move to a nice aluminum case presented range issues (I've read the olde plastic version had longer range, but maybe that is just rumor).
