the IMX178 sensor acts as if it has a Bayer filter in place despite being monochrome and this, unfortunately, generates additional noise. Of course, it doesn't really have a filter, but there is a definite bias in the readout of the sensor that follows a strict 2x2 image site pattern exactly like a bayer mask.
