I suspect this question must have been addressed here already, but the lack of a search system means I must ask it again. I have an ASI120 mono camera that's used in conjunction with PHD2 to guide a Meade LX200 Classic. A recent change to the scope's hardware caused me to look more closely at the settings used for the rig. Since the LX200 Classic doesn't accept pulse guiding, I use the ST4 connection to resolve the issue. So far, so good. I have been guiding with an error less than RMS 1 arcsec total. However, I noticed that the camera was set to 8 bit output in the PHD2 Camera Connection settings. It's recommended to use the highest bit depth available to ensure PHD2 calculates the best guide star centroid. So, I set the bit depth to 16 bit as recommended. After this change, the ST4 guiding failed. Using the Manual Guide tool in PHD2 and the telescope Handset, I can easily observe the scope responding to guide commands at the arcsec level. Using this technique, it is apparent that the ASI120 mono will only issue ST4 guide signals when operating in 8 bit. Is this a driver issue or something else?
Many thanks for any advice.
