Even after a camera firmware upgrade, the mini guide cameras appear to still have problems with ASIAIR. Some people even say it became worse.
What I have noticed (in posted images by others, and in my case, on an ASI174MM-mini with Preview mode -- so it happens not just to guide camera mode, but to main camera mode) is that there are image tears (alternate groups of horizontal bars with correct image, and bars with bad image that looks like they come from a wrong bin factor).
Interestingly, with all the images that I have come across, the image tears only affect the bottom half of the image frames. The stars on the top part of the frame looked good.
So, here is something those who have problems when guiding in ASIAIR with their ZWO mini cameras (USB C connector, USB 2 protocol) can try -- pick a star on the top half of the image to guide with. Don't pick a star that is too dim or too saturated -- ASIAIR will reject your choice and re-pick its own, and that might fall on the bottom half of the image.
I usually guide with an ASI290MM-mini, and did not notice any guiding mishaps in a couple of hours of imaging last night, using a guide star on the top half of the guide window.
Give the "guide star on top half" a try if you are currently having problems with auto guiding. It might work.
