BBB Actually, to give the Vonet a fair chance, I think that is what I will try with it.
Good plan, since you've already paid for it.
It should be fine just strapped to a tripod leg. There are some Android apps that displays the signal strength of a WiFi device. You can use them to aid in orienting the Vonets. (I keep a Samsung Galaxy around just to run one of these WiFi apps.)
If it gets too hot in summer, glue a large heat sink to it using heat sink compound. I even have a large heat sink cemented to one of my v2 ASIAIR.
As long as the 100 Mbps limit is not a deal breaker for you (assuming the ZWO one you got is identical to the one sold by Amazon that only has 100 Mbps LAN).
The time when you will feel the pain of 100 Mbps is when you connect your computer to the ASIAIR and use the Samba server in Raspberry Pi to download your image files to the computer wirelessly. But the workaround is to remove the USB memory stick and walk it over to the computer.
