ASIAir Pro Question

Getting ready to buy an ASIAir Pro and a new Sky-Watcher EQ6-R Pro mount. My scope currently has a Celestron focus motor installed. I really like the performance and the way it attaches to the scope, so would like to keep it. Will I be able to control the focus motor via the ASIAir? I also am interested to know the function in the ethernet port. Thanks for your help in advance.

Unfortunately the ASIair only works with ZWO focusers at this time, no one knows about the future, but doesn’t look like they want to support 3rd party focusers.

the ethernet port is by far the best way to connect ASIair Pro to your network, its 40x faster than wifi and goes as long as your cable. AAP has a very weak wifi signal so it only goes approx 9ft direct line of sight. If you cant run ethernet to your home router, then most buy a separate wifi extender (ZWO or 3rd party) to get better distance and speed… but still the best wifi usually falls far short of ethernet.

also, EQR6Pro is a great mount, I have one. The AAP doesn’t work with it via USB port, you have to either buy a cable called an EQMOD cable for $50, or you have to follow one of the hacks to get it to work. I’d recommend the hack over buying another cable that will be obsolete if ZWO updates their drivers.

the AAP has a lot of potential to be amazing but it has a lot of bugs and issues right now that have gone quite a while without being fixed.. so I am not sure ZWO is really supporting it, but they are still selling them.

For now, Asiair only supports ZWO's focuser. Thank you for your suggestions. We have been working hard to solve the problems existing in Asiair.

You do not need an expensive cable. Any old printer cable will work as long as it will plug into your Sky-Watcher EQ6R and USB into the ASIAIR. I fought this dog for a long time before I won. Set your mount to EQMOD, baud rate at 11520, and get rid of that Synscan hand control. It does nothing but create a conflict. Start by doing the polar alignment on the ASAIR, then you can select an object from the ASIAIR database, hit go to, and it will go there, and show you a picture that YOU just took. Next, you can fight with guiding. I found it difficult, but I am winning. I am no egghead. If I can do this, you can too.
