For those who want to use an EAF electronic focuser with their GSO newtonian dual speed focuser, I have a workable solution which doesn’t require drilling the OTA or modifying the focuser. It’s not conventional but works well and the EAF is rock solid, I’ve spent a few nights imaging and works beautifully. If you want to remove the EAF for any reason it only takes a minute Materials needed.... 90mm stainless steel hose clamp 50mm x 30mm aluminium extrusion cut section 30mm long Black PVC electricians tape 2 x 4mm stainless steel screws and nylon nuts 2 x 4mm stainless steel washers 4.5mm drill bit 4mm drill bit
Installation Remove GSO focuser wheel Use the ZWO 5mm/4mm barrel coupling and drill the 4mm end out to 4.5mm Wrap 2 turns of black pvc tape around fade of GSO focuser to protect it from being scratched by hose clamp Cut aluminium bracket to size Drill out ZWO supplied alloy angle bracket to suit correct distance to GSO focuser shaft and EAF barrel Fit hose clamp with aluminium bracket underneath Fit EAF with barrel coupling to GSO focuser shaft Tighten hose clamp and ensure EAF is aligned and parallel to GSO focuser shaft Connect cables and test Photos attached
Great solution. Can you tell me where you got the 50mm x 30mm aluminium extrusion cut section 30mm long or did you make it? Thanks.
