EAF firmware out of date

According to the docs, ASIairPRo has a native driver. So when I downloaded the latest ASIair Pro app from Google Play, I assumed I had the new EAF native driver. That was not the case. I still got the message that I had to upgrade the firmware. What gives?

VS2008 is the Visual Studio 2008 redistributable, which resides on the PC, not firmware. I would think that it is required generally (like ASCOM Platform), not just for EAF.

Is the EAF firmware updatable? I am not sure.

Thanks for trying to help but I am sorry that I have to keep repeating myself. I am controlling ASIair Pro via an Android tablet. There is no PC involved.

Firmware update has nothing to do with ASIAIR, once the update is successful, inside the EAF, the firmware will be changed permanently to the latest version(current is 3.2.2).

stubblejumper I think that you have misunderstood my post. I was referring to Post #2 which highlights (with a red circle) that VS2008 SP1 redistributable should be downloaded to update the EAF firmware. What I would like to know where to find the latest EAF firmware and possibly firmware updater app (which may well require the VS2008 SP1 redistributable). Agreed, this also has nothing to with Android.

I was drawn to this thread to find where I download EAF firmware, if indeed it is available for download. I have never been able to find a download link for an EAF firmware update.

I realized this morning that I will have to use Win10 to update the EAF's firmware. I downloaded the upgrade yesterday but don't know how to install it. Could someone point me to instructions about how to apply it?

I am happy to report that I have updated one of my two EAFs and ASIair Pro is happy. When I extracted the download, I discovered an app which would update the EAF. Quick and painless.

Thanks to everyone for trying to do a firmware update on my brain! 😀

stubblejumper Thanks, so there is no specific download for the EAF firmware updater, it's just amongst the general download, when unpacked. It has been a mystery to me fir some time. I will see if I can find it.

Just click on the FW Update tab.

The RAR archive contains the EAF firmware (.hex file) and the updater tool for Windows, together with a bilingual pdf documentation.

I finally got around to figuring it out tonight and upgraded the firmware to 3.2.2. I think that things would be a bit clearer if "VS2008 SP1 redistributable package" (totally meaningless name) was changed to something like "EAF Firmware Updater".

I guess all new EAFs running on 5V already come with FW 3.2.2?

crackout Mine didn't and it is a 5V device. It was 3.1.7, I think, but worked anyway.

Can your control program at least see the EAF as an electronic focuser, instead of a vanilla USB device?

If you can still see it as an EAF, look for a parameter called something like "Max Step Limit." Make sure it is not set to zero. The EAF will only move between 0 and this number. If this number is zero, the EAF won't move at all; and it does not warn you either.

If the device has bricked and turned into a generic USB device, since a 5V EAF should still be within warranty, just send it back to your dealer for a replacement, and let them deal with ZWO.

Got mine going! 🙂
Was just beeping and wouldn't budge at all in either direction.

FW Version 3.2.3 (updated yesterday)
Took it off the mount, looked at my old notes that I kept.

Hooked it up with the USB cable through ASI Studio, (newest version is out) and connected to "ASI CAP",
selected the EAF and powered it up thru this software.

Noticed that I didn't have anything in the "Set Maximum Steps" dialog box.
Entered the value of 19,000 and voila!

I was able to move the autofocus via the "Coarse Steps" or via
the "Fine Steps".

Reset the "Current Position" to my own setting of 7705 (for my Z61) and all is good!
Mounted it back on the telescope and it works great.

Will run the curve next time our skies are clear, (west end of Lake Ontario).

Included a screenshot using the "ASI Cap" software.

Same here, EAF 5V, upgraded the firmware to 3.2.3 and that was easy and went smooth,
but now all settings are gone and going to have to start from scratch again.
Looking for other posts in other forums to rectify this.
