Plate solving with ASI120MM Mini?

Dear fellows, I am considering to purchase an ASIAIR Pro, as it seems to be a fantastic device.

However, my MILC camera (Canon EOS R5) is not yet supported, so I'll have to use it with manual control. At the same time, I am going to have ASI120MM Mini as the guide camera.

Please advice if I can use it for polar alignment and plate solving if I tell ASIAIR that ASI120MM Mini is my "main" camera". Thank you.

Yuri Hi Yuri ! I use a ASI120mini on one of my setup. Yes you can use it as main camera, so you’ll be able to PA and plate solving with it. Then you can switch back to your Canon for imaging, letting the guiding to the 120mini. I did it many times, absolutely no problem.

Excellent, thank you so much @Lain402! I was afraid that low resolution of ASI120 would prevent plate solving.

Yuri The low resolution of the ASI120Mini sensor may still be an issue if you use it with a telescope with a very long focal length, e.g. on an OAG. ASIAir cannot plate solve on FOV smaller than about 0.5º so keep that in mind. If you use the ASI120Mini on a guide scope with a small focal length then you'll be OK.

Thank you @wvreeven, valuable information. I plan to use ASI120Mini with a 120-mm guide scope, so it must work well then.

I use it on the ZWO 30mm f4 mini guide scope, no problem for PA and Plate-solving.
