How to open and preview .FIT images?

I have been using my ASIAIR for a couple of weeks now with my Canon T7i and only using the RAW files captured on the camera's memory card. The ASIAIR also captures the images and does a great job of creating folders by name which is nice. The jpegs it saves are very small in size and not sure I can use them, but it also saves a fit file that I can't open with my current software.

Do you use the fit files to process the images? If so how?

Mr_Cellophane the jpegs are only for preview. I would recommend using either Deep Sky Stacker or Siril (Siril.org) to process the Fits files. They are both open source software so no cost. Siril also has some good but basic linear processing tools but for the non linear processing steps you will need either Gimp or Photoshop or the equivalent

I use Affinity Photo to process .FITS files. It is reasonably priced (about $60). A lot of people use PixInsight. It is rather expensive and has a large learning curve. I believe that GIMP can also process .FITS files. It is free. The .JPG files are basically thumbnails and are useless for processing.
