ASI120MC ROI Screen flickering problem

My ASI120MC captures planetary frames properly in the full screen 1280x960 format. However when I switch to any ROI format the preview screen flickers. When it does this flickering the planet flashes across the screen and appears at a number of different positions one after the other. When I play back the AVI file I see 3 separate Saturn images located at the left, right, and center of the screen. The same thing happens in both Firecapture 2.3 and SharpCap. Can you think of why this is happening?

Hi Peter

you can try to turn down "USB traffic" to ge a more stable image video.

maybe this value is too high for your computer.

or you can try a different but near resolution which may help too

I found that I needed to defragment my hard drive and remove some of the TSR programs from my start up menu. TSR programs use large amounts of CPU and RAM and also cause hard drive activity; that was causing most of my problem. Once I did those two things the screen flickering stopped and I saw a single Saturn for all ROI settings. I had previously reduced the USB traffic but I really needed to defragment the hard drive and remove useless TSR programs that were loading from my start menu.

The 8 second YouTube video at the link below shows my ROI preview window in Firecapture 2.3 beta (Version 8). Note how Saturn flickers in the preview window for some unknown reason.

I thought that I had solved my problem of Saturn flickering in an ROI preview window but last night the flickering returned. I was thinking that this might be a Firecapture software problem since Saturn looks fine in the full 1280x960 preview window but the problem also occurs with SharpCap. As soon as I switch to an ROI frame with either Firecapture or Sharpcap the planet quickly moves all over the screen in the preview window. I reduced the USB traffic to 40 and defragmented my hard drive but that didn't stop the problem from re-occurring last night.

Looks like an over zelous frame rate optimisation. I've not tried the latest driver due to summer but there used to be a setting to lower it. Ill look when I get home from work.

Thanks Stu, I'd appreciate it if you could do that; how does one adjust the setting for frame rate optimisation in the driver?

Sorry for the delay in replying.

In the video Capture Filter section, go to the ROI misc tab and uncheck the Auto FPS Adjust and move the slider down until the flickering stops.

Stu, how does one access the "Video Capture Filter Section". I don't see any application to access a control panel for the driver.

its the same as "USB Traffic" in FC.

It is only there in directshow software like SC.
