Bit Depth question

Hello all

I have just purchased an ASI120MM camera & was wondering how to enable 12bit capture of data?

The camera specification states "Bit rate: 12bit output（12bit ADC）", I just cannot see where, in any of the recommended capture programs that I can record this "12Bit output".

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

the 12bit data can only output from ASCOM driver now.

now I'm using Firecapture 2.2 but it's impossible to set flag on 12bit option.

My OS is win 7 64 bit on toshiba satellite T110 intel U2700 1,30Ghz 3GB RAM and Samsung SSD

FC won't support ASCOM driver yet.

and the 12bit ASCOM driver is only used for DS imaging because of the low fps output.

but we have plan to provide a SDK so FC can support it better include the 12bit outout

Hello Sam,

I don't like FC too much, it is a nice program with many features but is written in JAVA and uses a lot of PC resources. Even in the last version it hangs up frequently, at least on my portable PC.

Is there any other program supporting the 12 bit mode? What about updating Sharpcap?

12 bit support now seems to work well through Firecapture 2.3 beta, but switching between 8bit & 12bit recording then back again does some strange things with gain. Its fine if you stick with either 8bit or 12bit.

The ASCOM driver seems to work reliably now, but I can only get 8bit data with it.

Has anyone else had similar experiences?

the ASCOM driver is mainly for ST4 guider.

new ASI120 camera will add it.

but there is a limit the camera cannot output 12bit when enable ST4 guider.

So we disable 12bit output in ASCOM Driver
