Hello all....
I have a rather long thread (https://bbs.astronomy-imaging-camera.com/d/13488-asiair-pro-stale-screen-images-and-erroneous-plate-solutions) on stale screen images with the ASIAir Pro that I've seen little response to, same as is true elsewhere that I've shared this problem, leading me to think that either (1) many simply are not seeing it or, (2) they just don't recognize the problem for what it is, which I can definitely understand. This does seem to be unique to use of a DSLR as the main camera. However, the nature of the problem to me seems that is would nearly have to be in software, rather than hardware, which in turn leads me to believe the problem would be more universal among other users versus my simply having a bad AAP that ZWO needs to repair or replace.
That said, one critical thing that this problem results in, is what I'll called "backlogged images"...actually the source of the stale data, that apparently are not the FITs files saved to either the MicroSD card or external USB media, but instead to some internal memory for the AAP that is not user-accessible. Usually, such memory in a device might be clearable by a power cycle, but for the AAP this is not true. To give an example, I can do an autorun (this is what apparently triggers the stale images being created) of imaging on the Orion Nebula in the southern sky, interrupt the autorun after a meridian flip to ensure target framing is as desired (usually not), and then I run into the stale image problem. If as a final effort to maybe solve the issue I go to the northern sky for a PA and start off with just performing a Preview capture with my DSLR, only to see the resulting image presented on screen is....Orion!
Testing indoors, I've resolved what is happening to my satisfaction but with no solution. Ignoring that however, what I need to be able to do is somehow force the AAP to clear its internal memory and I wonder if anyone can suggest a pretty certain way to accomplish that? One thing I haven't tried that comes to mind as I write this, is to pull the MicroSD card with power off, power on the AAP and after a few seconds, again power it off and reinstall the MicroSC card. This is not an elegant solution due to the wear & tear it creates for the MicroSD card.
I'm basically looking for some way, other than the purchase of an astro camera, to get my AAP to work sufficiently that I can accomplish a night of good imaging while I wait for ZWO to respond on information I've provided them about the problem and hopefully they will confirm the problem as something they will fix soon in a firmware update, if possible.
Thank you!
