It will work well, you don't need any software as the ASIAir Pro takes care of everything. I have a 11" Edge HD but it's essentially the same thing. The specific settings have taken a lot of trial and error to sort out for me. Here's what will work best on a Celestron SCT. You will enter these into the EAF settings inside AAP after it's installed.
Set Reverse ON
Fine Step 15
Coarse Step 65
Max Step 60000
Backlash 155
Start with these, you may tweak - I've done coarse steps of 80 which sped up focus time and works well too. I've also done 255 backlash since the Celestron SCT's tend to have a lot of movement when changing focus direction.
If I recall the non EdgeHD doesn't have mirror clutches on the back (two big black knobs), so I think your all set. But if anyone sees this note and has an EdgeHD - I'll share one thing I learned which is to actually tighten the mirror locks a bit and focusing will be much MUCH more precise and hold throughout the imaging session, and prevent mirror flop. I start by loosening both clutches, then turn clock wise one at a time until they make contact, very little pressure is applied at this point, you are only at the point where the clutch is making contact. now give it a quarter turn; you may have to play a bit with this, for some it could be 1/8th of a turn, others 1/2 a turn or more.
These are not "locks" as they are commonly referred to, they are just clutches that apply pressure. If they are too tight they will just bind or cause the mirror to tilt, no damage. but you don't want that. you just want a little friction so that there is no wiggle room or flex.
Most people I've seen keep these knobs totally loose, and I have personally find that results in difficulty achieving good focus, and even if you do, within minutes it can become out of focus. So if you struggle to get a good auto-focus curves and your green dots on the graph are all over the place then you have a floppy mirror with too much play... tighten up the clutches as described above and now your mirror will glide with no room to shift.
Two more tips:
1- Make sure you pickup the right bracket; I don't think it comes with one that works on SCTs
2- Keep the Allen wrench handy, I find I have to disengage the EAF on occasion and turn by hand. this is done easiest by loosening the two grub screws nearest to the EAF and then you can focus by hand.
