I just installed the EAF focuser on my (1st generation Astro Tech 106 triplet) I had to improvise on attaching the bracket to the focuser, but I found one connection point and the final result seemed secure. The main problem using the hand controller is the fact it will stop while focusing in my mounted DSLR. I know the DSLR (Canon 60Da) falls well below the weight limit in the brief instruction sheet. Besides that, the "fast" mode is like a turtle while the slow mode you have to look really close to tell if it's even moving. I tried with the EAF plugged into my laptop both with an AC adaptor plugged in and on battery power as well. That made no difference.
I thought it might be the fact the one connecting point for the bracket was in a grub screw hole that is apparently used to press down on the focuser shaft (according to the picture in the directions) and I used the supplied M4 screw intstead to secure the bracket to the focuser body. I figured it would serve the same purpose either way, but to check this I loosened the screw and that made no difference in focuser speed and the problem of stopping after about a very slow travel of less than and inch when the focuser alarm went off and the focuser stopped again.
Anybody have the older Astro Tech refractors like the 106 or 111 (the latter designed by Thomas Back) they were the ones with the original gray focuser and gray accent dew shield and white bodies. They were made before the revised and less expensive black and white models were introduced some time ago. As those familiar with Astro Tech refractors, they went back to the gray and white scheme, a color combination I much preferred and giving Astro Tech a unique cosmetic identity.
