Dear ZWO
Back in January, I upgraded my ASI Air Pro (AAP) app to 1.8.2/9.10 and subsequently to 1.8.3/9.12. Since then, I have experienced problems when calibrating my ASI120MM 3.0 guide camera and ZWO 60mm guide scope.
Recently, I have been unable to complete the calibration of my guide camera. In brief, the calibration crosshairs will calibrate/move West (and the ‘distance’ value increases accordingly), but when attempting to calibrate/move East, the crosshairs continue to move West and the distance value continues to increase (rather than reduce to 0).
With advice from those on this forum, I experimented with the calibration step value, checked power, tracking etc but to no avail. Last August, the AAP worked flawlessly. Therefore, using my Android tablet, I have reverted to 1.6.2/8.11 (and by restoring the originally supplied OS). Having tested this last Thu, I can report that the calibration problem has been ‘fixed’ and all works as it should. This leads me to conclude that there is a problem with the latest update of the app, especially given similar comments made by Celestron customers on this forum.
When the AAP works, it is a wonderful device: it has certainly allowed me to – almost painlessly! – explore the hobby of astrophotography. Your desire to increase its capability with new features is to be commended: both multi-star guiding and the All-Sky Polar Align upgrades are most welcome, but not at the expense of the stability of the AAP.
Grateful if you could reply to this post at your earliest convenience and confirm your continued support to Celestron mounts.
Clear skies
Matt S
[For your awareness, my setup is as follows: a wedge-mounted, Celestron CPC925 ‘scope, reduced to F6.3, with an ASI 294MC Pro as main camera. Power comes from a regulated AC to DC supply, which is split to the mount and to the AAP unit. Not being EQ-MOD compliant, my Celestron NexStar Hand Controller is connected directly to the mount and via USB to the AAP.]
