Windows 11 cannot connect to ASIAIR Plus SMB share

I am trying to connect to my ASIAIR from a Windows 11 desktop and Windows 10 Laptop. The ASIAIR Plus is hardwired to my LAN and is visible when browsing the network from the File Explorer. However, it never connected to the ASIAIR so I can download my FITS files. On the Windows 10 server, if I use \ASIAIR it prompts me for a user name and password. If I use the IP (\10.0.0.57) it errors our and never connects. On Windows 11, it always errors out but does not prompt for a login. However, I can connect from a MacBook. There seems to be a setting or feature that is not correct for Windows. Does anyone know what I need to change?

That (10.0.0.57) is ASIAIR's address only if your computer is connected to the ASIAIR hot spot (i.e., ASIAIR is the host).

If the ASIAIR is connected to your LAN, you need to use a different address. Check your router's table to find the IP address of the ASIAIR. It will usually be something like 192.168.7.222.

You then reach the ASIAIR Samba server on that address by, for example, using the URL smb://192.168.7.222.

Unfortunately, I have validated the IP hard-wired as well as when using station mode. I understand why you would think it might be 192.168.x.x, but in my case the router does hand out 10.0.0.x. I have tried the instructions on the ZWO documents as well as the smb:// path. I'm still getting errors. I also tried connecting to the ASIAIR wifi, but in that case, I cannot identify the IP address. it's not visible in the ASIAIR screens.

At this point, the only way I seem to be able to get files off the device is using a MacBook. Windows 10/11 is not working for me at all. :-(

Did you enable network file sharing and network discovery in windows - they are under advanced settings for the network. By default on win 10/11 they are both disabled

My Windows 11 machine has network sharing enabled but did not have a Guest account. I followed these instructions to create a new account. https://www.softwareok.com/?seite=faq-Windows-10&faq=67 However, even when signed into the new guest account, I still have issues.

The IP that is displayed on my Wired Ethernet configuration on the ASIAir is 10.0.0.57. I can ping that IP with no issue. However, when I try to connect to \asiair or \10.0.0.57 the error I get is "Windows cannot access \asiair" or "Windows cannot access \10.0.0.57" Error code: ox80070043

This still does not work. I had hoped that the 1.9 version might unblock me, but I am still seeing the same issues with connecting the ASIAIR from a windows PC.

I have the same problem: I cannot access any longer from windows 11 to ASIair Plus via SMB: I have setup my Laptop from scratch and installed Windows 11 Pro with all existing Windows updates (24H2). The functionality to access ASIair Pro/Plus via SMB is broken in Windows 11.

With my old windows 10 laptop in the same network, it still works. I think it has to do with some windows 11 updates and restricted SMB security policies in Win11.

Accessing my NINA Win11 mini PC and any other Windows (Win10 & Win11) computers in my home network works fine. Accessing Synology NAS via SMB works too. Only ASIair doesn't work any longer, accessing Seestar S50 via SMB doesn't work too from windows 11.

@Tech@ZWO ZWO: please fix this problem or implement other capabilities to access data stored on ASIair via network, e.g. via FTP(S), SFTP, SCP

I still try to find the reason for the problem. I have a test VM with Windows 11 available: there is installed build 22631 (23H2): there I can connect via SMB to ASIair!
On my Win11 Laptop, where the connection fails, is a newer Windows 11 build installed: build 26100 (24H2). Maybe this could be some reason for the problem...

Yep, there are numerous posts around the Net regarding 24H2 disabling SMB. There are a number of suggestions to fix the problem, one which could possibly reduce security on your system. Google "does windows 11 24H2 turn off smb connection".

The following command in a admin powershell solved the issue for me:

Set-SmbClientConfiguration -RequireSecuritySignature $false

ZWO should change the actual SMB implementation to a reasonable level of security to have still access via SMB from a windows computer.

Good to hear you got it fixed. Microsoft had a similar problem several years ago with Windows 10 where some services were not being enabled. Four key services were involved. There is still some lingering issues from that where on occasion, some of my computers don't show up in File Explorer. In File Explorer's Network panel, I have to enter the name of the computer to which I want to connect and it will magically appear. I am sitting on 23H2 on my Windows 11 systems until they fix this.
