Does your WiFi router support "Band Steering?" (Do a google search.) Most newer routers has the cabability -- if your router supports it, turn it on.
ASIAIR's software only allows Station Mode connection on the 2.4 GHz band -- probably a limitation of the open sourced library that they use.
However, the underlying Raspbian (the operating system that the ASIAIR runs on) WiFi code allows itself to be band steered by the router.
I am running a first generation ASIAIR as an all-sky camera though WiFi (my other ASIAIRs are on Ethernet connection). It was initially connected with Station Mode at 2.4 GHz to an eero mesh network. Some time later, eero band steered the ASIAIR to the 5 GHz band. Right now, the ASIAIR is working in station mode with the eero on the 5 GHz.
