Hi all,
AutoStakkert!_3.1.4. provides a very simple solution to the "grid pattern that frequently appears on IMX178MM images (that need to be heavily contrasted, like those from the sun or moon).
The only thing that needs to be done on AutoStakkert! is to click on "advanced", "experimental features & parameter tuning", and activate "pre-processing" (vertical and horizontal blur). See annexed image.
For example, I use an ASI 178MM (with a 0.5x focal reducer) to obtain full disk h-alpha solar images images with a SolarScout SS60-DS.
I annexed an image obtained last March 30 (original sampling) using the above AutoStakkert! settings, and a mosaic of the a solar sector (obtained on 2021-4-28; original sampling), processed similarly except that "blur" was only activated at the right image (no pattern problem, in contrast with the obvious pattern at the left where the "blur" option was not activated).
Importantly, as stressed in AutoStakkert!, this "blur" is only for stack alignment, and is NOT introduced on the frames being stacked and averaged. So, no loss of resolution, just optimum alignment on the image and not on the residual sensor pattern.
Works fine for the moon and planets.
Try it if you have not done so yet...
Thanks
António
