My apologies for bringing this back up but my ASI120mm simply will not work on my Win 8 laptop.
I bought my ASI120mm camera about three weeks ago from OPT. I installed the new firmware that you provided. I am using the latest Beta version of Firecapture. I have a one year old HP Win 8 laptop, quad core, six gigs of ram, Radeon 7640g video card, fully updated. I have installed your ASCOM driver, the SDK, and the ST4, and the ASI120mm driver. I have also installed the full ASCOM suite and the latest .NET.
I have not had a successful image come out of the camera yet. The imaging app either locks up or the preview has lines and boxes on it. I get the same result with your camera utility, Sharpcap, Firecapture and TheSkyX Pro. But, for arguement sake, the Firecapture settings are: preview and night mode checked, ROI of 640x560, gain and exposure set to try for a 75 histogram, Gamma 50, USB traffic 70. Adjusting USB traffic makes no difference. In the settings tab the performance recommended settings is Quadcore, refresh rate makes no difference. Adjusting the resolution from the available settings only results in the garbage getting much worse but not gone. Most times I get a message in the preview screen the says, "Image capture failed." The camera is plugged into the only USB 2.0 slot on the machine.
I went so far as to reinstall Windows with the camera being the very first thing I installed. No good.
I thought this might be an electrical fault with the camera itself so I drove to OPT today. They brought out a new camera and plugged it into my laptop. It exhibited the same issues.
In September I modded a Microsoft Lifecam to fit on my telescope and it works perfectly in your camera utility and Firecapture on my laptop.
I just installed ASCOM and all your drivers on my wife's Win 7 desktop. The ASI120 works perfectly, absolutely rock solid and with a USB traffic value of 82 in Firecapture.
If you tell me that you have personally seen this camera work on a Win 8 machine without resorting to some super secret hacker tricks I will believe you but I have some serious doubts. Keep in mind that it's not just Firecapture it doesn't work in but your own utility. I really do want this camera to work. Your guidance and help would be greatly appreciated.
