TDunnavant Or, should it be sufficient to attach the camera's provided flat-ribbon USB 3 connector to a power-providing USB 3 laptop port?
If the combination of a direct camera power supply works with your laptop, you can just use that combination.
However...
(1) never, ever, use the ribbon cables that come with ZWO devices. They are made with thin gauge wires that create a large voltage drop. Especially for high speed devices like cameras, use shielded cables that are easily available everywhere and for different lengths, like Amazon.
The ribbon cables should also be kept away from wireless devices such as WiFi antennas, etc. And also away from other unshielded USB cables. And stay a good at least a meter or two away from a microwave oven.
(2) your laptop may also be compounding the problem by supplying a low +5V output on its USB port. If you connect a powered USB Hub to the laptop, and it works, then the laptop is adding to the problem.
In any case, the newer ZWO USB cameras like the ASI2600 and ASI6200 draw too much power from the USB bus (out of specifications from USB Standards) even without cooler engaged, and always require 12V to adequately power the camera electronics. I don't know about the ASI533 (don't own one), but you can measure it yourself if you have one of these cheap inline USB testers (handy to have for other USB diagnostics):
