otis2022 As soon as my ipad/iphone goes to sleep, and I try to get back to the app, it says it's not connected, even though via wifi - i'm connected and I'm standing half a meter away from the device.
I am not sure if this is the cause of your problem, but it is worth a try.
Go to iOS Settings. Select Wi-Fi settings. On the right hand panel, you should see the network that you have selected. To the rightmost of the selection, there is a blue "Get Info" icon (a circumscribed "i"). Tap on that icon.
Now scroll down to Private Wi-Fi address (WiFi Address is what iOS calls the MAC Address of a device). If it is set to On, turn it off.
When it is on, iOS would periodically change the MAC address of the iPad. This is so that websites cannot track you to steal your usage information for their commercial interest. But if the ASIAIR is using that MAC address to locate the controling ASIAIR app, the ASIAIR may lose your iPad.
The ASIAIR allows to different iPads to be connected to it at the same sime, and I suspect that the ASIAIR is using the MAC address to identify who to send the data back to.
The way to really handle this is for the ASIAIR app to keep the ASIAIR box appraised of its MAC address periodically. That is how other people handle it. But ZWO would need to do it. At least it should do it when "connection is lost."
Remember to turn Private Wi-Fi back on before you visit Google, Amazon or Facebook, or web sites that uses their services.
EDIT: if you are using a Cellular capable iPad, be sure to turn cellular off. And if you have active networks that you have set to auto-join, turn those networks' auto-join off, and only allow auto-join to the ASIAIR.
