Solar photography with 12.5" f5

Hi Sam,

Just purchased a ASI120mm from Optics Central here in Melbourne - it's your latest shipment with the built in optical window.

I would like to try the camera for some full aperture solar photography with my 12.5" f/5 telescope.

My set up would use a full aperture photographic Baader Solar filter (ND 3.8), 5 x Barlow and IR685 filter.

I have had no issues with temperature etc using this set up with a Skynix 2.0 camera.

I am wondering if there is any danger is using the 120mm for this type of photography? There was one report of some of the material around the CCD coming apart on a 120mm due to temperature and I want to make sure that I don't subject the camera to something that it is not designed for.

If you can advise.

Should work as usual. I don't know if that IR filter is a good idea. Baader AstroSolar has lower contrast at longer wavelengths.

Ok thanks sam - will do solar imaging and post back if any issues.

My filter is a deep red ir pass filter - why would this not be a good idea? Seeing should be better at above ir 685 manometers?

i imaging the sun with my 8" newton telescop, with the asi 120mm and the Baader astrosolar D=3.8,

there is no danger for the caméra, i just using the IR intern filter in the camera,

if you using the barlow x5 , the field will very small, you can try the asi 120 on the prime focos only...

But AstroSolar doesn't like IR and gives lower contrast. I'm using yellow bandpass filter (totally IR blocked), similar to Baader Solar Continuum filter and the contrast of the image is vastly better than with infrared filters. It's odd, but that's how the solar filter likes to work.
