komiya element burns due to sunlight
I use a 3.2mm focal length, f/1.7 lens with an ASI178MC for my all-sky camera, and have not notice any burn-in problem after a few years.
You can see the marking of the lens reflected off the acrylic dome :-). The double reflection comes from the two different surfaces of the dome.
Not only can you monitor clouds, you can also monitor migrating Canada geese (water droplets from an earlier rain):
