Hi I’m fed up is an understatement.
we have not had many clear nights so they are precious.
I have tried to update the firmware on my am5 but after four tries and following the instructions on here I still cannot do it, so my stars are pin sharp but the mount will only guide in the ra NOT dec. everything is tight but why only guide in one thing, ra?
My equipment is = Celestron AVX tripod am5 mount, zwo294 camera and a zwo ASIAIR pro. I get focus then try to Polar align but the mount slews only about three degrees, hence the reason to try to update am5 firmware. My stars are elongated. I bought this very expensive mount to improve my data but sadly that is not the case. I must be doing something wrong and probably have not set the mount correctly. I need to know the firmware version, this is an area of confusion, for me, there is the handset firmware and the mount firmware, should these be the same, if so how do I do it? I managed about one hour of the soul nebula tonight but didn’t want to do any more as the data was so poor. Anyone advise please.

How was the guiding? Are you using AISIAR?

denababy I need to know the firmware version, this is an area of confusion, for me, there is the handset firmware and the mount firmware, should these be the same, if so how do I do it?

AM5 firmware and AMH firmware are not the same number, if you cannot update the firmware by the AMH web. you can also update the AM5 firmware in ASIStudio v1.7-ASIMount Controller.

Did you check if your mount is in the Equatorial mode?
Is your DEC guiding turned OFF in the guiding screen?

Hello, thanks for the speedy reply. Yes my mount is in equatorial mode and I’ll check that dec is turned on. Should I set the mount to 90 degrees as I live at 52 degrees, would it help? Thank you.

denababy you want it in Equatorial mode and if you live at 52 degrees North then the mount needs to be set for 52 as well.

Yes , my last comment was somewhat confusing, I have set the mount at 52 degree, what I meant was do I need to set the mount at 90 degrees so that I have full movement, if you get my drift. After watching the zwo video where they show you how to set the mount in order to achieve full movement, I was wondering if by setting to give full movement it would help to stop my stars being anything other than pin sharp, as they are when I get focus.

denababy I don't understand what that 90 degrees mean but that shouldn't have any effect on guiding.
Check if the DEC guiding is ON or OFF because if it is OFF, that is your problem right there.

Hi, yes I’m using the ASIAIR pro and a skywatcher evo guide 50ed as my guide camera. I think I have managed to update everything, just got to wait for the next clear sky to try things out.
You say the am5 and the amh are different numbers, what numbers are they? Are there any instructions to update the am5 using asi studio v1.7 - asi mount controller.

At AMH management system web you will see the latest version number of both fo them, by the way, can you visit AMH web now?

Yes, there is a manual at ASIMount Controller"Settings-About-Help".

Did you verify that your guiding is set to auto and not off?

Hi, I’m not sure where I will find this setting in the ASIAIR pro but my scope guides in the ra only. When I get a clear night I’m going to check that the changes I have made do in fact result in things being better I.e pin sharp stars and not the elongated ones I have been suffering from. Today I managed to update the firmware on both the mount and the handset so I hope things will go a lot bettor me.
