Can someone explain what setting the cooling to -10c actually does please. Does it set the camera temperature to -10c or does it set it to -10 degrees centigrade below the current ambient/measured temperature outside. The reason I want clarification is I want to setup a dark library for my ASI294mc Pro and I read a post that said you can do these at anytime as long as the temperature is the same as when taking lights. So I intended to take them indoors but obviously the relative ambient temperature would be higher than when I was outside taking the lights so I wanted to check what the setting actually does. Target of -10ºC at the sensor, of course. A ∆ of 10º is useless since the images willl be taken at a temperature that is different from the temperature that you took your dark frames.

Try to set the temperature to keep the cooler power below about 90% since that will also affect how constant the temperature is kept through the duration of your imaging session (on top of the propensity of ZWO's cameras to leak oil from the thermal pad when stressed). That consideration could influence whether you want to take dark frames indoors (except with the camera in a refrigerator).

w7ay Thanks Chen. So just to be totally sure, it does set the sensor temp to -10c or -15 etc when you choose that value. I suspected that was the case but the UI doesn’t make it clear. Thanks.

To repeat, yes.

Just take a look at the sensor temperature that is read back from the camera. Notice that it fluctuates around the temperature set point, as long as the set point can be reached.
