Why can't I remove IR filter, so I can use my own

Hi,

Is there any reason why the IR filters are fixed in the ASI120mc, so as not to be removed, I have my own top quality filter and would like to use that with one of these cameras instead, but can't get the factory fitted one out??

Why can't they be made removable instead?

Would help to be able to to full spectrum imaging too

you can remove it. but we don't recommend.

this is used to protect the sensor from dusts.

you can open the case and removed the protect window from the back

The front of the camera unscrews , it's not obvious as it's very neat / well made but it should unscrew

So there is no way that the filter can be unscrewed from the front without taking apart, because it looks like it would screw out as there are slots on the filter housing are these not to remove it with??

And I thought these can be bought seperately. So how do people put them in themselves??

Could you do me one with a clear glass window??

First check if you really have to remove it. IR-cutting glass isn't rocket science.

yes, you have to open the case to unscrew it from the back.

you won't find much difference between our IR-CUT window and Baader's

we can offer the clear glass window if you needed.

I don't think so, they never are when built into cameras, as that is not what you are paying for, I paid £40 for my AStronomik IR filter, I don't think that the built in one would be any where near that quality!!

But I would like to be proved wrong.....

Well, high resolution planetary imaging can easily be spoiled by optics defect. IR filters are needed in mass quantities as all color machine vision cameras need them. Mass made IR filters are then cheap for a unit. Now if it was of low quality then we wouldn't have good quality pictures taken with such filtered cameras.

Ther are no screws under the foam, just a locking ring, and can't budge that, it is rock solid, so totally un remove able and so very useless to me.........great, I contacted my local dealer I

Here in UK 365astronomy where the camera was bought from, and he has tried and can't remove them either.

So now what do I do
