Large format deepsky cmos camera

Sam,

Any thought of developing a larger format cmos based camera for DSO's? I know the Sony IMX071 cmos chip is making waves in the DSLR astroimaging groups. I have a Pentax k5 that uses this chip and it's amazing. If I had a dedicated astrocamera with this chip and cooling I would jump on it in a heartbeat. I would especially love a mono version of it with filter wheel and narrowband filters and all. No question whether I would purchase it or not!

Currently own your ASI120MM. Unbelievable camera. Thanks for all the hardwork you did on it!

There are mono CMOS sensors as big as the CCD in Atik 11000 - CMOSIS makes them but they aren't cheap :) I've tested the 1" variant of their sensor and it's quite handy for lunar imaging. The price is around 1400-1600 EUR so it's not that obvious if it's worth it. ;)

As for sensors used in DSLR it may also be cheaper to mod the DSLR than to try and source the boards or the sensors itself (quite often people say it's not worth to fix a broken sensor in a DSLR as the vendor would charge more than the camera value etc.)

the most difficulty thing is we cannot get the sensor from SONY

the quantities is too less compare with DSLR

Astronomical cameras are very specific and low quantity cameras. Don't expect sensor makers to be worried about this market.
