gijoe50000 So I just got my first astro camera, ASI585MC, and the Bayer Pattern is "R Gr Gb B", but I can find very little about this pattern anywhere.
Although written as a one dimensional sequence, the RGGB Bayer mosaic is really in two dimensions, i.e.,
RG
GB
This 2x2 pattern is repeated over the entire sensor. I.e., a 4x4 pixel array would look like
RGRG
GBGB
RGRG
GBGB
The two Green pixels of a 2x2 array are at different photosites, so the actual intesities are not actually equal. To make this distinction, the green photosite in the red row is Gr, and the green photosite in the blue row is Gb.
By convention (ever since Bryce Bayer first came out with this Bayer pattern), people just implicitly assume that the first G of "RGGB" is the one on the red row.
I.e., RGGB is simply the short form of writing R-Gr-Gb-B.
You can see Bayer's lab notes (Kodak lab book) here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bryce_Bayer , where he simply wrote G instead of Gr and Gb. If it was good enough for Bayer, it is good enough for me :-).
