ASI120MM mini horiz bars

I bought a 120MM mini to test on my finder scope. I have tested it on win10/11. The USB camera shows up in device manager. I fire up various imagining such as ASIStudio. When i connect to the camera all i get is horizontal bars of light and dark gray. It never picks up any light source. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Are you doing this indoors with artificial "dimmer" LED, or fluorescent lightning? If so, your camera exposure could be "beating" with the period the light is "flickering" at.

Try an exposure time of significantly longer than 1/60 seconds, and see if the problem goes away. Or just use outdoor lighting.

If it is indoors, your focus could be way off, and that could be why you are not picking up any details.

You bet. Below is the screenshot of the camera using ASIcap. I have tried the camera in any number of situations. On my scope, in dark sky. Even just holding it by hand the camera barely changes. I have tweaked every adjustment in various pieces of s/w i has tested with the camera. Nothing really changes the image capture. I am beginning to think i got a dud camera.

mcobb2105 Looks like interference fringe, change the exposure time to the 1/A multiple of Utility Power frequency seconds or longer than 1/60 seconds as Chen said, the bars will disappear.
