EAF not detected by any program

Hello!

I have connected the EAF to nina and I have wanted to reset to zero. After doing so, I have moved the focuser several times but it was already at the top. It made some noises and finally stopped working. Now my PC doesn't recognize it, even if I reinstall the drivers. In addition, the eaf emits a constant sound that it did not emit before. I don't know what to do, I can't connect it, nothing will recognize it.

Best solution is to return it to the dealer and ask for a replacement for a faulty part (whether the firmware, or the hardware is faulty). The customer should not have to deal with these issues themselves.

If you want to attempt to resuscitate it, try using one of the programs in the ASI Studio Suite. They have interfaces to the EAF, and bypasses pretty much all drivers (the EAF uses the USB HID interface that does not require any driver beyond what is already native in Linux, macOS and Windows).

If the program in ASI Studio program can see the EAF, change the current Step position to 30000, and max Step position to 60000.

If ASI Studio does not see the EAF (or other programs still don't see the EAF after the above step), you can see if the EAF Firmware update program can see it. If so, try to refresh the firmware -- there is an EAF Firmware update tool for both macOS and Windows. Since it is a program from ZWO, this step should not invalidate any warranty exchange even if it keeps your EAF bricked.

Please test with different USB cables and USB ports. then run the FW update tool to see if it recognizes your EAF.

I have tried with different cables and different pcs. The result is the same. The tool to update the firmware, does not find the eaf.. 🙁

Mine has done the same thing. I've tried it with two laptops, a Windows tablet, a Windows desktop, and a Linux Mint desktop. I've also used multiple cables, hubs, and power supplies, and almost nothing works.

The single exception is that I have an old Dell laptop that takes PC Express cards (the successor to PCMCIA cards), and I have one card that has three USB 3 ports. The focuser works with that, and I was able to upgrade the firmware. After the upgrade, though, the focuser refused to connect to anything except the PC Express card. It will also not connect to the USB 2 ports in the same laptop. Bizarre behaviour.

RogerHill What is the version of your EAF? 5V or 12V

It's a 12V unit. I tried using the 12V power supply I have for a ZWO ASI1600mm, so it's not a power supply issue.

I also tried using a Windows 10 Pro machine that I haven't used for over a year. It was running Windows 10 Pro 20H2, in case the recent update to 22H2 was the cause. The device still failed to work.

The only difference is that the device will not respond when an Intel chip set is used. When the Frisco Bay chipset, which is found in the Express card is used, the focuser works as it should.

I was able to get it to work a couple of weeks ago, by plugging the EAF into USB3 hub. It worked for a couple of weeks, up until today. and now I get a Device Descriptor Failed message from AstroPhotography Tool, and Windows complained that the last USB device that was plugged in was not recognized.
