Can't yet run FireCapture on a notebook

I have just upgraded to a ZWO ASI120MC from a NexImage 5.

Due to clouds and rain, all my work so far has been in my recreation room in the basement, seeing what the software will do for me before I try it outside with my CPC 800.

So far, I have found that the XP netbook I was using for the NexImage 5 just isn't robust enough to use with the ZWO. That's OK, I can use my wife's notebook, a Win7 Home 64 bit.

I can get all both Sharp Cap2 and FireCapture to operate the camera on my desktop, but the notebook is balking at the FireCapture Software. On my desktop pc it starts fine, but on the notebook it fails every time, and I see a message that it cannot find the start.bat file. However the start.bat file is right where it should be, in the same folder as the .exe file. I tried running it as an administrator, and turning off the virus protection, and running it in compatibility mode, which it recommended for XP SP2 mode. Nothing helps, so I am temporarily giving up on FireCapture for now, and just using SharpCap 2.

Any suggestions as to a fix for FireCapture will be appreciated, as I've run out of ideas.

I run firecapture on my laptop (Samsung Series 5) with Windows 7 64bit without problem, didn't have to do anything special. I suggest starting over downloading firecapture 2.3 and uncompressing it on a folder on the desktop.

The program uses Java, check you have the latest JRE version installed.

Thanks for mentioning Java: it was never installed on that notebook.

That got FireCapture running.

I adjusted the USB Traffic and that fixed the occasional image tearing I was getting. Turned on the Debayer and that got the color to come on. I don't know if the Debayer needs any adjustments: it is "nearest neighbor" and GR for now.

Now able to get a few sample video files using the fisheye lens and so far so good.

I am wondering about the various image settings. I have it set on 640X480, but if I change it to another setting, will that change the appearance of an object, other than its apparent size? In other words, would Mars still look like a (gibbous) circle?

Looking at the specs of your notebook: it is much more "robust" than my 3 year old Acer notebook. I will eventually need to upgrade, but I'd like to get a bit more use out of the Acer. My 5 year old Asus Eee netbook will still work with my NexImage5, which is the only thing I use it for. The Asus was overwhelmed with the ZWO and various software.
