How to connect ASIAIR Plus to an HEQ5i or EQ6Ri Skywatcher mount WIRELESSLY with no EQMOD or EQDIR cable (no cable):
I verify this method works on an HEQ5i, but likely will work on EQ6Ri and other wireless synscan/skywatcher based wifi mounts. This probably works on Android too, but i did not test that.
(These HEQ5i and EQ6ri "i" models are the same as the regular models except that the wifi dongle is put in place of the Hand controller, so this info applies to HEQ5 and EQ6R too, if you have the wifi dongle installed.)
This way below i can connect to my ASIAIR Plus with my iPad (or iPhone) and Wirelessly control the ASIAIR and Mount wirelessly and get images and do all ASIAIR functions. Also the ASIAIR connects to the mount wirelessly. And you can use your iPad or iPhone. wirelessly and walk around your entire house (or outside) and control everything, given your mount/asiair is in your house router range (if you're not just get a range extender or portable router). I never bought a serial or eqmod cable or hand controller, this method is all wireless.
This method requires a home router (I have an Asus, but any modern dual band WIFI router will work), so that's a pre-requisite to get this to work.
A) CONNECT YOUR MOUNT TO YOUR HOME NETWORK (skip if you've already done this) -- do this once only
Use Synscan Pro app on your phone or ipad.
Connect via the shipped mount SSID (this is the wireless wifi channel shipped with your mount).
Change to Station mode.
Enter your home network SSID and password.
Use DHCP (you can use a static address if you are sophisticated and it works better, but i use DHCP). DHCP sets up a router-assigned address.
Make a note of the address it assigns to your mount, because you'll need it. You can push the "Equatorial mode" button to remind yourself of the current address if you forget it.
Just ensure you are now connected in Station Mode.
B) CONNECT ASIAIR PLUS TO YOUR HOME NETWORK. (Skip this step if you've already done it.) -- do this once only
Use your ASIAIR app in ipad or iphone.
Similar to above connect to the shipped ASIAIR SSID (wifi network channel) and included password.
Update firmware if prompted. (I would restart your asiair plus if you update your firmware by pushing the Asiair Plus Wifi button and then Restart button. Then continue as below. )
Connect mount with EQMOD mode if asked. (no cable is needed), ignore if not asked
Push Asiair App WIFI button.
Set your ASIAIR Plus to Station mode.
Enter your home router SSID and password (your home wifi channel)
C) CONNECT ASIAIR WIRELESSLY TO YOUR MOUNT (Skywatcher mount only) (I assume you've not done this step if you are reading this article) -- Do this once only
Use your ASIAIR app in ipad or iphone.
Push the Asiair App Telescope button.
Again, ensure EQMOD is selected.
Choose Ethernet connection method.
Put the DCHP IP address of your mount from your Synsync connection (that you noted above). It shouldn't change over time but it could. If that gives you a problem (i.e., the mount's IP address keeps changing using DHCP mode) you can set a static address on your subnet, but its a little harder to explain how to choose that number, I can tell you if needed. Then choose Port 11880 and UDP.
Push the Station slider button. I had to push the button 3 times to get it to take, but its stuck after that.
Now you should be able to go completely wireless (of course there's still power wires and wire to your camera.)
