I feel I need to clarify my comment regarding the CF Tripod. I may have overstated the precarious nature of the set-up. I should not have said "Slightest bump." The mount handles my 12lb refractor comfortably without CTRWT. I have to tip it about 10 degrees in worst cast position to reach the point where it would tip. This tripod is a beautiful piece of engineering for a 70-80mm astrograph, but it really is too light for loading up a large OTA. Especially in say a public outreach environment with unpredictable activity or if left unattended with wind gusts, there exists a distinct danger of it being knocked over. Also there was a fair bit of vibration from a moderate breeze. I am confident this was coming from the light tripod, not any deficiency of the AM3.
As I already have the tripod (limited time free with purchase of AM3) I intend to buy a hefty power bank and attach it to a central strap hanging from spreader bolt. I'll adjust it so it is just touching the ground and test how much stability that provides. Another option would be nylon loops attached to the bottom of each leg to drive a tent peg through to provide some resistance to a bump. We'll see it's early days.
