Multiple captures with FireCapture

Now that I've got FireCapture running OK, I'm a bit confused as to the results.

1. I seem to be getting multiple captures. I thought I would hit Start Capture and I would get one avi file. But it just seems to keep going and going and going.

2. First I thought this had something to do with Debayer, but it seems not to. When I have Debayer selected, the default setting of "nearest neighbor" and "GR" are selected. Is that the best setting? The preview screen looks very greenish-yellowish.

Please tell me what I should be expecting and what I need to do to fix things, if anything. So far I haven't got to the telescope yet, just working inside trying to figure out the software and settings issues.

H'MMMMMMMMMMM,

I don't have the same challenge with my notebook as I was having in the above post with my desktop.

However, the frame rate/capture rate was awful, no matter what I did with the notebook and settings.

So I tried Sharp Cap on the notebook and it worked much better, even if the program doesn't have all the options of FireCapture.

My Acer Aspire One is only 3 years old, and has Win 7 Home 64. If I were to upgrade it to another notebook/laptop, is there something newer/better in the $300-400 price range that works well with the ZWO and FireCapture?

Right now, until I actually get out of the recreation room in my basement, I'm not quite ready to purchase another piece of hardware, if I can get satisfactory performance with my current notebook, but I would consider it if the performance at my telescope is not as good as I hope.

Thanks for the link to the FAQ: that helped somewhat.

So far I can agree only 3/4 with your experience: On my 5 year old Asus Eee netbook, neither FC or SC ran well. On my desktop, both run well, although I still can't figure out why I am getting multiple videos with FC, because I don't get multiple videos with FC on my notebook. On my Acer notebook, FC will run OK until I want to take a video, when the frame capture rate drops to about 30. SC on my notebook gives me a capture rate of about 50-60 per second, way better than I ever got with my NI 5.

I replaced my older net book with a laptop with an i5, and it is working much better now with both SharpCap and FireCapture.

The images below were with SharpCap, since it was my first time using the camera and I had time only to try it with one program. But the results are good.
