The last two weeks were quite puzzling because I couldn't align my [Celestron] AVX mount, and I have been using ASIAir for about half-a-year. I always performed a two-star alignment (with two calibration stars) and then proceeded with the "all-star polar alignment" using the hand controller. On the second iteration, I connect ASIAir just before performing the two-star alignment. This is so ASIAir becomes synced with the mount.
But ASIAir was just updated last month (and I couldn't roll back to the old version). Now, for some reason, ASIAir interferes with the two-star alignment and I can't even align the first star. (It slews way past it, or way ahead of it, or something). I didn't know what was going on for the longest time. I thought my mount had bad firmware, but I just had it updated through Celestron's tech support earlier this year. I thought "How am I going to convince tech support I need to revert back to my old firmware."
Then.., I caught it. It just took some old-fashion troubleshooting. I completely left ASIAir out-of-the picture (didn't connect it) and my mount went back into normal service. In fact, it was spot-on.
What a load off my mind !
I adjusted my routine afterwards and instead of connecting ASIAir on the second iteration, I just leave it out. Instead I power-cycle the mount for a third iteration, but instead of a two-star alignment, I simply opt for 'quick-align'. (The mount is completely aligned since it was polar aligned using two iterations). ASIAir likes being synced with 'quick-align' so I let it have its way. (Temperamental software).
