ASI120MC on Nexus 7 2013 Android

Good day Sam,

I have a received my ASI120MC about 2 months back, (and due to cloudy whether I have been able only to test it in daylight :-( )

Anyway,

I have a android tablet , the google nexus 7 2013 and I should like to connect it via an OTG cable to the ASI120MC.

I found this company that have software that can do this, the problem is that the ASI120MC is not in their supported cameras list :-(

May be you could contact them as the camera manufacturer and see if it is possible to add the ASI120MC to their supported cameras?

Or do you know any other apps that can connect to the ASI120MC on an Android device without the need to root the tablet?

ASI's driver don't support android yet

so I think they cannot do it right now

but maybe in the future because we already have linux driver

Marco, I've successfully compiled and run the ZWO Optical proprietary drivers under Android. It's not difficult, generate a toolchain from the NDK, use the libusb .a ported to Andorid from the OpenNI2 project and the .a library from ZWO. You have to play some tricks with stub functions because of differences between bionic and glibc, but it's not rocket science. I acquired images with the CLI test program witout any troubles, after all, as far as kernel is concerned, Android is just a modified Linux. Os course .so won't work because the dynamic linker is different. Even better here: https://github.com/chripell/yaaca/blob/master/asill.c it's an OSS driver that basically works. Unfortunately right now I don't have much time to invest in this but I'm really interested to have the ASIcams running on Andoroid tablets. I don't have much experience with Android Java programming, so if someone with a solid knowledge in that field could join the effort we could manage to come out with an application quickly. I was thinking about writing a NDK application too because I'm more at home with C/C++, but in these weeks I'm pretty busy, perhaps this summer.

I do not now anything about Linus/Android programming, my programming experience is just some c++ programming few years back.

I will check your info anyway, and see if I can manage anything :-)
