They need to nail down the function of the 2600 duo first.
The wonky star shapes are not tracked well by asiair, especially at long FL and slower scopes (edit: at any speed or FL), add in a broadband light pollution filter, and with the gain set to 550 in Bin2 (with or without a dark library, which makes zero difference, another topic), you're lucky if you can make out 2-3 stars and maybe asiair will pick up one.
If the stars are bird shaped or have multiple centroids, your guiding will suffer. ASIair will chase them and RMS figures of 1+ to 4 at best .
If using an SWG mount like AM5/3, then shorter exposures like .5 are better, but getting stars asiair can use at that exposure time is difficult. And the random dramatic spikes my AM5 has in RA, can and will throw out guiding RMS numbers. SO it might say I am guiding at .7 or lower but those spikes produce trailed stars and unusable data.
I did have one night where it was crystal clear and zero wind using a Antlia Triband Ultra RGB filter on an RC8 at 1600FL, where it picked up multiple stars and guided sub 1 RMS on average. But, there are many nights lost to completely unusable data because of guiding thus far.
My experience with the RC8 was mirrored with the sharpstar 61EDPH II with and without focal reducers in either scope and in a C8 Hyperstar.
I would highly suggest if using a filter drawer, going to a 54mm drawer. The scope end is 48mm. Where as on a standard 48mm drawer the scope end is 42mm. This makes a difference.
My point being, I hope they don't come out with another Duo camera until they have the software in the ASIair at least better finessed to handle the high gain and wonky stars.
Update: Got a chance to utilize the DUO with my C8 Hyperstar. Clear skies, no wind. I don't know how else to say it, it's just awful. If it can't guide any better than this at F2 and 371mm FL on a clear windless night in the fall, ZWO has no business making another camera with this design.
Here is an album with guiding screenshots of the RC8 and last nights C8 Hyperstar session.
