Thanks Keith, I have seen a few ideas to solve this problem. The way to fix this problem which seems to affect most cmos and some ccd cameras is to mount the camera at an angle. The twin plate system works but you then need to make the joint light proof which is difficult when imaging the sun. My fix was to take the T thread to lens adaptor as supplied with the ASI120mm and slice it through at an angle with a hacksaw. After sanding the cuts smooth I reassembled them at an angle and used sticky tape to hold the parts in position while I tested the camera with a 2x. After several attempts I found a spot at 8 degrees which removed the newton rings and gave a clear and high detail image. After scribing this position I cleaned both surfaces and applied 3 drops of super glue to hold it firmly. When glue was set (30 secs) I mixed up some araldite and made a permanent fix, when hard the next day I ground some of the exterior excess off and gave it a coat of flat black. viola! a cheap and good looking adaptor. I will be making another when my 4x arrives and will take some pics to demonstrate the process. Cheers, Phil.
